HELL
Referrals to the first verses of the Divine Comedy are evident in this scene.
Mounts erupting flames are evident in the background as well as a group of “lazy people”, those who favoured neither God nor Satan, destined therefore not to enter Heaven but also not to enter Hell, following a devil with a white flag.
Below, Charon approaches the condamned to transport them to the other side of the river Acheron and then towards Hell.
At the bottom right is the judge Minos who establishes the punishment of the guilty as his tail twists around the body.
Above all this, two angels watch, defenceless, before the scene.

 L’INFERNO
In questa scena è evidentissimo il richiamo ai primi canti dell’inferno della Divina Commedia.
Sullo sfondo si intravedono monti eruttanti fiamme e un gruppo di “ignavi”, coloro che in vita non si sono schierati né dalla parte di Dio né da quella di Satana, destinati, quindi, a non entrare nel Paradiso ma neppure nell’Inferno, che inseguono un demone con la bandiera bianca.
Sotto, Caronte che si avvicina ai dannati per traghettarli sull’altra sponda del fiume Acheronte e trasportarli verso l’Inferno.
In basso a destra, il giudice Minosse, che stabilisce le punizioni dei peccatori avvolgendo la coda attorno al suo corpo.
Al di sopra di tutti, due angeli che assistono inermi alla scena.
